ANA, Nasarawa partner to tackle poor reading culture

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Nasarawa State chapter has elected new officers to direct the affairs of the association.
The election of the new officers took place at the weekend in Lafia during the biennial convention which featured reading of literary and creative works.
Those elected to pilot the affairs of the association included Dr Chika Ose-Agbo as the Chairman, Azige Louis, General Secretary, Jocelyn Lurex, Treasurer, Owunka Mba, Public Relations Officer, Simon Inalegwu, Auditor-General, Edwin Philip, Ex-officio and Mr Abdullahi Shams Shama, Legal Adviser.
Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hajiya Fati Sabo expressed willingness of her ministry to collaborate with the state ANA to make literary works available in all schools. She explained that the ministry had been a direct consumer of literary works available in all schools. She commended the association for its contribution towards the intellectual development of the state.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Schools in the ministry, Mr Abubakar Kana said the ministry had been a direct beneficiary of literary works over the years.
“The ministry is quite prepared to liaise with this body to make available your literary works to our various schools for our students’ consumption,” she said.
Dr Chika Ose-Agbo, who spoke on behalf of other elected officials said the members of the executive would work towards building and promoting ANA literary and intellectual works for its impacts to be felt across the state.
He promised to reawaken its reading campaign across primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the state to bridge the gap of poor readership among students.
